INTRODUCTION: Optimizing operating room (OR) scheduling accuracy is important for OR efficiency, meeting patient expectations, and maximizing value for health systems. However, limited data exist on factors influencing the precision of Total Hip Arthroplasty (THA) OR scheduling. This study aims to identify the factors influencing the accuracy of OR scheduling for THA. METHODS: A retrospective review of 6,072 THA (5,579 primary THA and 493 revision THA) performed between January 2020 and May 2023 at an urban, academic institution was conducted. We collected baseline patient characteristics, surgeon years of experience, and compared actual wheels in to wheels out (WIWO) OR time against scheduled OR time. Significant scheduling inaccuracies were defined as actual OR times deviating by at least 15% from scheduled OR times. Logistic regression analyses were employed to assess the impact of patient, surgeon, and intraoperative factors on OR scheduling accuracy. RESULTS: Using adjusted odds ratios, primary THA patients who had a lower BMI and surgeons who had less than 10 years of experience were associated with overestimation of OR time. Whereas, higher BMI, younger age, general anesthesia, non-primary osteoarthritis indications, and afternoon procedure start times were linked to underestimation of OR time. For revision THA, lower BMI and fewer components revised correlated with overestimated OR time. Men, higher BMI, more components revised, septic indication for surgery, and morning procedure start times were associated with underestimation of OR time. CONCLUSION: This study highlights several critical patient, surgeon, and intraoperative factors influencing OR scheduling accuracy for THA. OR scheduling models should consider these factors to enhance OR efficiency.

The Sengkang General Hospital Orthopaedic Spine Outpatient Service is facing a growing challenge of increasing number of referrals and waiting times, placing a significant burden on the system. Primary care referrals have an average wait time of 61.1 days, with 34.5%f patients waiting longer than 60 days from referral to appointment, to see a spine physician.Back pain is a very common presentation, with the vast majority resolving after conservative management which commonly includes analgesia, physiotherapy and reassurance. Unfortunately, many referrals from primary care involve patients who have yet to explore the avenues of conservative management with 90% of our referrals being managed without surgery. Globally, triage services in Western countries conducted by allied health professionals have shown to be an effective method at addressing the escalating wait times with high satisfaction rates. We have endeavoured to emulate this within our department through the implementation of the Spine Triage and Rehabilitation (STAR) Clinic. The STAR clinic aims to empower physiotherapists with the ability to triage patients into surgical and non-surgical categories with their primary physiotherapy expertise to reduce waiting times and increase outpatient capacity.More than 300 patients were recruited, and their progress was tracked over 13 months under the four Ss of: waiting timeS, cost Savings, Safety and patient Satisfaction. This pilot study has been overwhelmingly positive, with significantly reduced waiting times and high cost savings, without any compromise on patient safety and satisfaction.

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to reduce the number of patients discharged without scheduled follow-up appointments by implementing lean management principles. METHODS: Conducted at the Sultan Qaboos Comprehensive Cancer Center in Muscat, Oman, the research utilized a one-group pretest-posttest quasi-experimental design to evaluate the impact of lean management interventions on the rate of patient discharges without follow-up appointments. Strategies such as the Kaizen principle, Gemba Walks, cross-functional collaboration, standard work procedures, and waste reduction were employed to enhance operational efficiency. RESULTS: Spanning from Quarter 3 of 2022 to Quarter 2 of 2023, the study demonstrated a significant decrease in the percentage of patients discharged without planned follow-up appointments. The rate dropped from 9% in September 2022 to 0% in March 2023, with statistically significant differences observed (X2= 65.05, p value=<.0001). CONCLUSION: By effectively implementing lean management principles, this research successfully enhanced care continuity for oncology patients after being discharged.

Background: Long clinic wait times can contribute to treatment delays and decreased patient satisfaction. Veterans are often waiting in the urology clinic for a prolonged period that delays treatments including possible surgical interventions leading to patient dissatisfaction. Purpose: The purpose of this quality improvement project was to decrease the overall procedural wait times in an outpatient urology clinic by implementing a Fast-Track procedural clinic. Methods: The Fast-Track procedural clinic was developed to expedite care for veterans actively under bladder or prostate cancer surveillance, employing lean methodology principles. We also utilized the Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems Outpatient and Ambulatory Surgery Survey (OAS CAHPS) tool to assess patient satisfaction with the newly implemented Fast-Track clinic. Wait times were collected and analyzed by SPSS statistical software to determine the effectiveness of a Fast-Track clinic. Results: The Fast-Track clinic was implemented to veterans presenting to the urology clinic for procedural appointments from June 2021 to December 2021. The usage of a Fast-Track clinic decreased the overall wait times from 131 to 75 minutes within 8 weeks (43% improvement). The OAS CAHPS tool found that 55% of veterans received easy-to-understand instructions pre-Fast-Track implementation, compared with 59% post-Fast-Track implementation (a 4% improvement). Furthermore, 82% of veterans reported that they did not receive written discharge instructions post-Fast-Track implementation compared with 32% pre-Fast-Track implementation. Conclusion: Incorporating a Fast-Track procedural clinic helped minimize wait times, leading to a reduction in procedural wait times and urologic surgical delays. Implications for Nursing: The implications for practice include future studies focusing on other strategies for improving clinic wait times including block schedules and qualitative measures in the urologic and other specialty areas.

BACKGROUND: Improving retention within randomised controlled trials is important. The effectiveness of different strategies can be assessed using a Study Within A Trial (SWAT). Previous research has shown personalised text message reminders improve clinic attendance rates; however, the results are mixed on improving postal questionnaire return. This SWAT aims to assess whether personalised text message reminders improve completion rates for scheduled telephone follow-ups. METHODS: This SWAT is a two-arm, multi-centre randomised controlled trial with equal allocation. The host trial was the Melatonin for Anxiety prior to General anaesthesia In Children trial (ISRCTN 18296119), where the child's caregiver was to answer a scheduled telephone follow-up 14 days post-surgery; participants for the SWAT were therefore the caregiver. Text messages were sent 24-48 h before the scheduled call and the personalised version contained the first name of the caregiver which was omitted in the non-personalised version. The primary outcome was questionnaire completion rate, defined as the proportion of caregivers successfully contacted, and completed any of the questionnaires, over the telephone within the follow-up window (day 14 + 7 days). RESULTS: The SWAT included 100 of the 110 (91%) participants randomised into the host trial. Randomisation within the SWAT was equal between non-personalised (n = 50) and personalised (n = 50) interventions. The overall questionnaire response rate was 73% with a difference between the two interventions of 68% in the non-personalised text message arm and 78% in the personalised text message arm. The adjusted absolute risk difference was 7.1% (95% confidence interval = -10.2%, 24.4%). There was no difference in either the time to response or the number of contact attempts between the two interventions. CONCLUSIONS: There is some evidence that personalised text messages could be effective at increasing response rates when data is collected via telephone and in a population of caregivers for paediatric trial participants. However, similar SWATs have shown mixed results. Given the low-cost and low risks associated with personalising text message reminders, this SWAT could be implemented easily in other RCTs scheduling telephone follow-up appointments. Cancellations within 24 h of planned elective surgical procedures reduce operating theatre efficiency, add unnecessary costs and negatively affect patient experience. We implemented a bundle intervention that aimed to reduce same-day case cancellations. This consisted of communication tools to improve patient engagement and new screening instruments (automated estimation of ASA physical status and case cancellation risk score plus four screening questions) to identify patients in advance (ideally before case booking) who needed comprehensive pre-operative risk stratification. We studied patients scheduled for ambulatory surgery with the otorhinolaryngology service at a single centre from April 2021 to December 2022. Multivariable logistic regression and interrupted time-series analyses were used to analyse the effects of this intervention on case cancellations within 24 h and costs. We analysed 1548 consecutive scheduled cases. Cancellation within 24 h occurred in 114 of 929 (12.3%) cases pre-intervention and 52 of 619 (8.4%) cases post-intervention. The cancellation rate decreased by 2.7% (95%CI 1.6-3.7%, p < 0.01) during the first month, followed by a monthly decrease of 0.2% (95%CI 0.1-0.4%, p < 0.01). This resulted in an estimated $150,200 (£118,755; €138,370) or 35.3% cost saving (p < 0.01). Median (IQR [range]) number of days between case scheduling and day of surgery decreased from 34 (21-61 [0-288]) pre-intervention to 31 (20-51 [1-250]) post-intervention (p < 0.01). Patient engagement via the electronic health record patient portal or text messaging increased from 75.9% at baseline to 90.8% (p < 0.01) post-intervention. The primary reason for case cancellation was patients' missed appointment on the day of surgery, which decreased from 7.2% pre-intervention to 4.5% post-intervention (p = 0.03). An anaesthetist-driven, clinical informatics-based bundle intervention decreases same-day case cancellation rate and associated costs in patients scheduled for ambulatory otorhinolaryngology surgery.

BACKGROUND: In qualitative work, patients report that seemingly short trips to clinic (eg, a supposed 10-minute blood draw) often turn into "all-day affairs." We sought to quantify the time patients with cancer spend attending ambulatory appointments. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective study of patients scheduled for oncology-related ambulatory care (eg, labs, imaging, procedures, infusions, and clinician visits) at an academic cancer center over 1 week. The primary exposure was the ambulatory service type(s) (eg, clinician visit only, labs and infusion, etc.). We used Real-Time Location System badge data to calculate clinic times and estimated round-trip travel times and parking times. We calculated and summarized clinic and total (clinic + travel + parking) times for ambulatory service types. RESULTS: We included 435 patients. Across all service day type(s), the median (IQR) clinic time was 119 (78-202) minutes. The estimated median (IQR) round-trip driving distance and travel time was 34 (17-49) miles and 50 (36-68) minutes. The median (IQR) parking time was 14 (12-15) minutes. Overall, the median (IQR) total time was 197 (143-287) minutes. The median total times for specific service type(s) included: 99 minutes for lab-only, 144 minutes for clinician visit only, and 278 minutes for labs, clinician visit, and infusion. CONCLUSION: Patients often spent several hours pursuing ambulatory cancer care on a given day. Accounting for opportunity time costs and the coordination of activities around ambulatory care, these results highlight the substantial time burdens of cancer care, and support the notion that many days with ambulatory health care contact may represent "lost days."

Mental illness is a common sickle cell disease (SCD) comorbidity. This observational study evaluated psychiatry appointment attendance among 137 young adults with SCD. In their first year of adult SCD care, 43% of subjects were referred to psychiatry. Referral was associated with chronic transfusion therapy. Twenty-four percent of subjects attended a psychiatry appointment; attendance was associated with the appointment being scheduled within 6 weeks of referral and no subject characteristics. Ninety-one percent of subjects attending psychiatry appointments had a psychiatric disorder. Among young adults with SCD, psychiatric morbidity is high. Psychiatric services are, therefore, essential for this patient population.

BACKGROUND: Patient late cancelation and nonattendance for endoscopy appointments is an ongoing problem affecting the productivity and wait times of endoscopy units. Previous research evaluated a model for predictive overbooking and had promising results. STUDY: All endoscopy visits at an outpatient endoscopy unit during 4 nonconsecutive months were included in the data analysis. Patients who did not attend their appointment, or canceled with 48 hours of their appointment were considered nonattendees. Demographic, health, and prior visit behavior data was collected and the groups compared. RESULTS: 1780 patients attended 2331 visits in the study period. Comparing the attendee versus non-attendees, there were significant differences in mean age, prior absenteeism, prior cancelations, and total number of hospital visits. No significant differences were seen between groups in winter versus non-winter months, the day of the week, sex distribution, type of procedure booked, or whether the referral was from specialist clinic or direct to procedure. The visit cancelation proportion (calculated excluding current visit) was substantially higher in the absentee group ( P <0.0001). A predictive model was developed and compared to current booking as well as a straight overbooking of 7%. Both overbooking models performed better than the current practice, but the predictive overbooking model did not outperform straight overbooking. CONCLUSIONS: Developing an endoscopy unit specific predictive model may not be more beneficial than straight overbooking as calculated by missed appointment percentage.

PURPOSE: The timely delivery of health care is an important quality indicator that has been shown to correlate with outcomes for cancer patients. We present our single-institution experience with the implementation of a same-day-access scheduling initiative in outpatient radiation oncology. METHODS AND MATERIALS: From March 2021 to March 2023, a total of 4301 consecutive new patients referred for radiation oncology consultation were offered same-day appointments as part of a prospective pilot initiative conducted at a tertiary-based academic medical center. Descriptive statistics were used to study the effect of this initiative on access-related benchmarks compared with historical control patients referred during a preceding 24-month period. RESULTS: Among the 3414 patients scheduled, 477 (14%) opted for same-day appointments. Black, Latino, and Asian patients were significantly more likely to use same-day access versus Caucasian patients (P < .001). The same-day-access initiative increased the proportion of patients seen within 5 days from referral from 22% to 61% (P < .001). The median time from referral to consult was 12 days (range, 0-149 days) before the implementation of the same-day-access initiative compared with 3 days (range, 0-101 days) after (P < .001). The no-show rate was reduced from 15% to 7% with the initiative (P < .001). All patients who requested a same-day appointment were successfully accommodated. CONCLUSIONS: The implementation of this same-day-access initiative enhanced operational efficiency and reduced barriers to care in the outpatient setting.

BACKGROUND: Missed colonoscopy appointments delay screening and treatment for gastrointestinal disorders. Prior nonadherence with other care components may be associated with missed colonoscopy appointments. OBJECTIVE: To assess variability in prior adherence behaviors and their association with missed colonoscopy appointments. DESIGN: Retrospective cohort study. PARTICIPANTS: Patients scheduled for colonoscopy in an integrated healthcare system between January 2016 and December 2018. MAIN MEASURES: Prior adherence behaviors included: any missed outpatient appointment in the previous year; any missed gastroenterology clinic or colonoscopy appointment in the previous 2 years; and not obtaining a bowel preparation kit pre-colonoscopy. Other sociodemographic, clinical, and system characteristics were included in a multivariable model to identify independent associations between prior adherence behaviors and missed colonoscopy appointments. KEY RESULTS: The median age of the 57,590 participants was 61 years; 52.8% were female and 73.4% were white. Of 77,684 colonoscopy appointments, 3,237 (4.2%) were missed. Individuals who missed colonoscopy appointments were more likely to have missed a previous primary care appointment (62.5% vs. 38.4%), a prior gastroenterology appointment (18.4% vs. 4.7%) or not to have picked up a bowel preparation kit (42.4% vs. 17.2%), all p < 0.001. Correlations between the three adherence measures were weak (phi < 0.26). The rate of missed colonoscopy appointments increased from 1.8/100 among individuals who were adherent with all three prior care components to 24.6/100 among those who were nonadherent with all three care components. All adherence variables remained independently associated with nonadherence with colonoscopy in a multivariable model that included other covariates; adjusted odds ratios (with 95% confidence intervals) were 1.6 (1.5-1.8) for outpatient appointments, 1.9 (1.7-2.1) for gastroenterology appointments, and 3.1 (2.9-3.4) for adherence with bowel preparation kits, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: Three prior adherence behaviors were independently associated with missed colonoscopy appointments. Studies to predict adherence should use multiple, complementary measures of prior adherence when available.

Social media has become an important part of plastic surgeons' practices. Is it true that the more followers, the more efficient it is to the plastic surgeon's branding? This study is to verify the quantitative correlation between social media and clinical appointments and to optimize its utilization. One hundred and five plastic surgeons were divided into 3 groups according to titles. WEIBO served as a targeted platform and descriptive data, including numbers of followers and clinic appointments were collected for analysis. The promotive effect was quantified as and correlation analysis was conducted to quantify the relationship between followers and outpatient appointments. From this research, it was found that 62% of participants were social media users, while 38% were not. No statistical significance was found between them by comparing the number of clinic appointments. For surgeons with social media, a positive correlation was proven between followers and clinic appointments, whose Pearson's correlation was 0.266 (attending: 0.557, associate consultant: 0.315, consultant: 0.060). Meanwhile, the conversion rates in this study were 22.49±44.67% (attending), 13.10±24.57% (associate consultant), and 18.88±36.05% (consultant). Outpatient consultations of senior surgeons without social media (2652±14492) were significantly higher than young surgeons with social media (1800±1718, P <0.05). The regression equation was Clinical Appointments=ln (Followers)×316.906-992.588 ( R2 =0.270, P =0.023). In conclusion, this study proved that social media positively influenced clinic appointments but the traditional personal brandings like reputations, academic pedigree, and word of mouth still played an indispensable role in career development. Young surgeons benefited most from social media. The promotive effect of social media would reach its saturation when the followers were up to ∼50,000.

Daycare infusion therapy is an integral aspect of oncology, but increased waiting time raises concerns for patients. Patient-reported experience measures prompted the need to evaluate reasons for prolonged appointment delays. This study seeks to analyze and address patients' concerns, to streamline the process flow and reduce waiting time for daycare infusion therapy thereby enhancing patient experience. The define, measure, analyze, improve, and control methodology was implemented, and its impact on reducing waiting times was evaluated. The objective is to ensure that >85% of patients enter the daycare infusion unit within an hour of their appointment time in 6 months. The baseline data for patient waiting times was measured for a period of 2 months, and the average waiting time was determined. Potential causes contributing to prolonged waiting times were identified through time-motion analysis, with a fishbone diagram categorizing potential causes and a Pareto chart prioritizing them. Plan, do, study, and act cycles were conducted for implementing the changes, and a new process flow mapped. Baseline data showed 32% average adherence to the defined turnaround time of 1 hour, with an average waiting time of 108 minutes. Forty causes were identified for increased waiting time, of which eight were key. Adherence to waiting time turnaround time improved from 32% to 89% and the average waiting time decreased by 59 minutes from 108 minutes, increasing patient satisfaction index by 7.5%. The balancing measures include an increase in operational efficiency and throughput of the unit and the inventory levels of oncology medicine were decreased, leading to a 50% reduction in inventory value, while medication error declined by 0.62%, improving patient safety. The project gained tangible and intangible benefits impacting staff, patients, and relatives while improving operational efficiency. This study, with its scientific and systematic approach, enhanced patient satisfaction, patient safety, and better utilization of resources.

BACKGROUND: The global outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in significant changes in the delivery of health care services such as attendance of scheduled outpatient hospital appointments. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of COVID-19 on the rate and predictors of missed hospital appointment in the Sultanate of Oman. METHODS: A retrospective single-centre analysis was conducted to determine the effect of COVID-19 on missed hospital appointments at various clinics at The Royal Hospital (tertiary referral hospital) in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman. The study population included scheduled face-to-face and virtual appointments between January 2019 and March 2021. Logistic regression models were used with interaction terms (post COVID-19) to assess changes in the predictors of missed appointments. RESULTS: A total of 34, 3149 scheduled appointments was analysed (320,049 face-to-face and 23,100 virtual). The rate of missed face-to-face hospital appointments increased from 16.9% pre to 23.8% post start of COVID-19, particularly in early pandemic (40.5%). Missed hospital appointments were more frequent (32.2%) in virtual clinics (post COVID-19). Increases in missed face-to-face appointments varied by clinic (Paediatrics from 19.3% pre to 28.2% post; Surgery from 12.5% to 25.5%; Obstetrics & Gynaecology from 8.4% to 8.5%). A surge in the frequency of missed appointments was seen during national lockdowns for face-to-face and virtual appointments. Most predictors of missed appointments did not demonstrate any appreciable changes in effect (i.e., interaction term not statistically significant). Distance of patient residence to the hospital revealed no discernible changes in the relative effect pre and post COVID-19 for both face-to-face and virtual clinic appointments. CONCLUSION: The rate of missed visits in most clinics was directly impacted by COVID-19. The case mix of patients who missed their appointments did not change. Virtual appointments, introduced after start of the pandemic, also had substantial rates of missed appointments and cannot be viewed as the single approach that can overcome the problem of missing hospital appointments.

BACKGROUND: The Veterans Health Administration has been criticized for long wait times; however, studies indicate that Veterans Health Administration wait times are shorter than those for the Veterans Health Administration's Community Care Program. Previous studies have analyzed primary care wait times, but few have compared surgical specialties. METHODS: Using a publicly available data set of veteran appointments compiled from the Veterans Health Administration's Corporate Data Warehouse, a nationally representative database containing 623,868 surgical consults from January 1 to June 30, 2021, mean differences in wait times between the Veterans Health Administration and the Community Care Program were calculated across surgical specialties. RESULTS: In total, 49.6% of the surgical consults placed during the study period were for the Community Care Program. Across all surgical specialties, wait times were shorter in the Veterans Health Administration. Cardiothoracic surgery had the shortest mean wait times (23.1 days Veterans Health Administration; 30.0 days Community Care Program). The greatest difference in wait times was observed in plastic surgery, with Community Care Program appointments occurring 15.8 days later than Veterans Health Administration appointments on average. CONCLUSION: Across all surgical specialties, the Veterans Health Administration had shorter wait times than the Community Care Program during the study period.

PURPOSE: We present our single-institution experience with the development of a same day access scheduling initiative for an outpatient radiation oncology unit, focusing on its potential influence on ameliorating racial disparities. METHODS AND MATERIALS: From March 2021 to August 2022, a pilot initiative was conducted such that all new patients referred to a tertiary care-based radiation oncology department were offered the ability to be seen as a same day consultation. The timespan of this analysis was categorized into 2 distinct successive periods over 36 months-a 18-month pre-initiative period (September 2019 to February 2021) and another subsequent one (March 2021 to August 2022). Descriptive statistics were used to study the impact of this initiative on access-related benchmarks. RESULTS: A total of 2897 patients were referred. Among the 2107 patients scheduled, three hundred and sixteen (15 %) opted for same day appointments. Black, Latino, and Asian patients were significantly more likely to use the same day access initiative versus Caucasian patients (p = 0.01). The same day access initiative increased the proportion of patients seen within 5 days from referral from 8 % to 34 % for Blacks, 12-57 % for Latinos, and 18-67 % for Asians, compared to 39-55 % for Caucasians (p < 0.001). The no-show rate was reduced from 20 % to 7 % and 14-5 %, for Black and Latino patients, respectively (p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: The implementation of a same day access initiative narrowed disparities with respect to access-related benchmarks.

INTRODUCTION: Canceling pediatric elective surgery leads to multiple disturbances regarding the inefficient operating room (OR) management, the financial repercussions, and the psychological impact on the patient and his family. This study aims to identify the reasons for cancellations among the pediatric population in our setting and suggest some convenient solutions. METHODS: We carried out a prospective and descriptive study over 12 months in the pediatric surgery department of Fattouma Bourguiba University Hospital. RESULTS: One thousand four hundred twenty-six patients were scheduled for surgery at the pediatric surgery department, of whom 131 (9.2%) were canceled. Medical and anesthesia-related reasons accounted for 62.5% of all cancellations, followed by surgical reasons at 16%, organizational or administrative issues at 11.5%, and patient-related reasons at 10%. The most significant causes were upper respiratory tract infections (URTIs) in 36.6%, abnormal blood test results in 16%, and non-adherence to preoperative fasting in 9.2%. CONCLUSIONS: The rate of pediatric elective surgery cancellations at Fattouma Bourguiba University Hospital was higher than the accepted average rate (5%). Therefore, to prevent these cancellations as much as possible, efforts should be made to promote children's medical care, operation scheduling, and efficient institution resource utilization.

BACKGROUND: Pre-scheduled appointments can increase attendance in breast cancer screening programmes compared to 'open invitations' but relatively few randomized controlled trials exist. We investigated the effect of a pre-scheduled appointment on uptake in the Flemish population-based mammography screening programme. METHODS: Between September and December 2022, a total of 4798 women were randomly assigned to receive either a pre-scheduled appointment or open invitation. The difference in attendance was compared with Poisson regression analysis for the primary endpoint (attendance ≤92 days after date of invitation), yielding relative risks (RRs). This was done separately for three groups: women invited to a mobile unit and a history of nonattendance (group M-NA); women invited to a hospital-based unit and a history of nonattendance (group HB-NA); women invited to a hospital-based unit and a history of irregular attendance (group HB-IA). There were no women invited to a mobile unit and a history of irregular attendance. RESULTS: The RRs in favour of the pre-scheduled appointment were 2.3 [95% confidence interval (CI) 1.80-2.88], 1.8 (95% CI 1.07-2.97) and 1.8 (95% CI 1.43-2.39), for groups M-NA, HB-NA and HB-IA, respectively. We found no statistically significant difference between the various RRs. The respective absolute gains in attendance between pre-scheduled appointment and open invitation were 8.3%, 4.4% and 15.8%. CONCLUSIONS: Sending an invitation with a pre-scheduled appointment is an effective tool to increase screening attendance in both mobile and hospital-based screening units. The pre-scheduled appointment is associated with a considerable absolute gain in attendance which varies depending on the screening history.

OBJECTIVE: Researchers sought patient feedback on a proposed randomized controlled trial (RCT) in which gynecological cancer patients would modify their diets with intermittent fasting to gain insight into patients' perspectives, receptivity, and potential obstacles. A convenience sample of 47 patients who met the inclusion criteria of the proposed RCT provided their feedback on the feasibility and protocols of the RCT using a multi-method approach consisting of focus groups (n = 8 patients) and surveys (n = 36 patients). RESULTS: Patients were generally receptive to the concept of intermittent fasting, and many expressed an interest in attempting it themselves. Patients agreed that the study design was feasible in terms of study assessments, clinic visits, and biospecimen collection. Feedback on what could facilitate adherence included convenient appointment scheduling times and the availability of the research team to answer questions. Regarding recruitment, patients offered suggestions for study advertisements, with the majority concurring that a medical professional approaching them would increase their likelihood of participation.
